The Omega Speedmaster Calibre 321 Ref. 311.30.40.30.01.001, affectionately known as the “Ed White”, is a historically significant modern interpretation of one of the most important Speedmasters ever produced. Its design takes direct inspiration from the third-generation Speedmaster worn by astronaut Ed White during the first American spacewalk in 1965.
The watch is presented in a beautifully proportioned 39.7mm stainless-steel case, featuring the characteristic straight-lug architecture of the original 1960s Speedmaster. A black ceramic bezel with the historically correct “Dot Over Ninety” tachymeter scale reinforces its vintage character while introducing the durability and refinement of modern materials.
The black step dial is faithful to the appearance of the original Speedmaster, with three recessed chronograph registers, slender hour markers and the applied vintage-style Omega logo. The clean monochromatic layout gives the watch exceptional legibility while preserving the purposeful instrument-like character that made the early Speedmaster famous.
At the heart of the watch is the legendary Omega Calibre 321, a manually wound column-wheel chronograph movement with a horizontal clutch and approximately 55 hours of power reserve. Omega painstakingly reconstructed the historic Calibre 321 for modern production, making the movement one of the defining features of this reference. Its beautifully finished architecture can be admired through the sapphire crystal exhibition caseback.
The watch is fitted to a stainless-steel bracelet designed to complement the more compact proportions and vintage aesthetic of the 39.7mm case. Together with the sapphire crystal and 50 metres of water resistance, it provides modern-day practicality without compromising the historical character of the watch.
