The Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute Ref. AB0210 is a historically significant limited-edition chronograph celebrating the 50th anniversary of astronaut Scott Carpenter’s Aurora 7 space mission. Introduced in 2012, this exceptional timepiece pays tribute to one of the earliest Swiss wristwatches worn in space.
Presented in a 43mm stainless-steel case, the watch retains the iconic Navitimer architecture, featuring a bidirectional rotating bezel with Breitling’s famous circular aviation slide rule. Its substantial construction and traditional finishing reflect the professional aviation instruments that established the Navitimer’s reputation.
The distinctive black dial features a 24-hour display rather than the conventional 12-hour arrangement. This unusual configuration was originally developed for Scott Carpenter, allowing him to distinguish between day and night while orbiting Earth. The dial incorporates luminous Arabic numerals, contrasting chronograph registers and a date display.
Powering the watch is the Breitling Manufacture Calibre B02, a hand-wound mechanical chronograph movement developed specifically for the Cosmonaute. This COSC-certified chronometer operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers approximately 70 hours of power reserve.
The watch features a sapphire crystal and offers 30 metres of water resistance. The caseback carries a special Mercury 7 Aurora engraving commemorating Carpenter’s historic mission, together with the individual limited-edition number.
